Section 5 - Your Turn: Writing
a. Read the story of Elephant and Friends again. Identify the elements of the story. Underline or highlight the story's Orientation, Complication and Resolution.
Answer:
1. Orientation
Example: One day an elephant wandered into a forest in search of friends.
Time: One day
Place: in a forest
Characters: elephant.
2. Complication
Example: He saw a monkey on a tree. "Will you be my friend?" asked the elephant.
"You are too big. You cannot swing from trees like me," replied the arrogant monkey, Next, the elephant met a rabbit.
He asked him to be his friend. But the shy rabbit said, "You are too big to play in my burrow!" Then the elephant met a frog. Will you be my friend? He asked.
"How can I?" asked the disgruntled frog. You are too big to leap about like me." He met a fox next.
You can't run as fast as I can." The elephant was upset and felt heartbroken.
Meanwhile, the tiger kept eating up whoever he could find. the monkey, rabbit, frog, and fox did not want to be his friend
Problem: a tiger ate animals in the forest
3. Resolution
Example: The elephant walked up to the tiger and said, Please, Mr. Tiger, do not eat up these poor animals."
"Mind your own business!" growled the ferocious tiger. The elephant had no choice but to give the tiger a hefty kick.
The frightened tiger ran for his life. The elephant went back into the forest to announce the good news to everyone.
All the animals thanked the elephant. They said, You are very brave and just the right size to be our friend."
Resolution: The elephant fought the tiger and the animals in the forest became his friends.

Conflict: Lion being so proud and telling other that he is the fastest animal Resolution: Lion held a marathon competition.
"Will you be my friend?" he asked the fox. The sly fox said, Sorry, sir, you are too big.
Event 2
Conflict: Lion and hyena bully the cheetah because of his small legs and it will make it lose the marathon Resolution: Cheetah agreed to join the marathon.
Event 3
Conflict: Lion, Hyena and Cheetah begin the race, but they agree to cheat in the race to injure the cheetah Resolution: the Lion and Hyena fell to their trap because the cheetah was do fast and the lost.
Answer:
Once upon a time in savannah Africa, there was a prideful lion. He thought that everything was small compared to him. He thought that he was the best, so he held a marathon race.
He invited the hyena and the cheetah to join the race. Hyena agreed but the cheetah did not want to join.
Lion and hyena bully the cheetah by saying his lag was very skinny so he will never win in a race against lion and hyena. In the end, the cheetah agreed to join the race.
When the marathon race began, the lion and hyena saw how fast the cheetah ran, so they planned to cheat.
In the final race, the cheetah ran so fast that the lion and hyena fell behind and could not harm the cheetah so they could win. In the end, the cheetah became the fastest animal in the savannah.

Chapter 2 Kindness Begins With Me
Pada bab ini, siswa belajar mengekspresikan tentang perasaan, sifat dan perilaku karakter dalam cerita.
Karakter dalam cerita-cerita tersebut adalah berbagai macam binatang, jadi ceritanya tidak nyata atau imajinatif atau cerita rakyat.
(In this chapter, students learn to express the feelings, traits and behaviors of the characters in the stories. The characters in the stories are various animals, so the stories are not real or imagined or imaginative).

Pada teks cerita kita menggunakan kata kerja bentuk lampau untuk membicarakan kejadian di masa lampau dalam sebuah cerita. Kita menggunakan kata kerja ini untuk:
Menciptakan tindakan (shake – shook): The yellow ducklings shook their wings.
Menunjukkan proses berpikir (think – thought): A Mother Duck thought about her eggs.
Mengidentifikasi sesuatu dengan indera kita (see – saw): The Mother Duck saw i’ve yellow ducklings.
Mengungkapkan sesuatu (say – said): “You are all so cute!”, said the Mother Duck.
Menghubungkan informasi (is/am/are – was/were): The Ugly Duckling was gray and shy.
Sebuah cerita berisi hubungan antar karakter. Salah satu cara untuk menunjukkan hubungan tersebut adalah dengan menggunakan ekspresi seperti pleased’, ‘angry’, ‘worried’, and ‘sorry’.
Ekspresi ini juga disebut Kata Sifat. Kata sifat mengekspresikan perasaan karakter dalam dunia cerita. Menggunakan kata sifat dapat membantu pembaca dapat mengetahui lebih banyak tentang perasaan karakter dalam cerita. Sebagai contoh, kata sifat menunjukkan bahwa Induk Bebek merasa khawatir atau Si Itik Buruk Rupa sedih.
Kata sifat dapat muncul setelah kata ‘menjadi’. Kata sifat muncul setelah kata kerja lampau bentuk lampau dari ‘to be’, ‘was’ dan ‘were’ karena kita lebih sering menggunakan bentuk lampau dalam menceritakan sebuah cerita.
Lihatlah contoh berikut ini:
The Ugly Duckling was sad. Nobody wanted to be his friend
(showing the Ugly Duckling’s feeling sad).
The yellow ducklings were not happy to see the Ugly Duckling
(showing the yellow ducklings’ feeling unhappy).
Selain mengekspresikan perasaan karakter, kata sifat seperti “shy”, “mean”. “honest”, “friendly” or “rude” dapat menggambarkan sifat dan perilaku karakter dan perilaku.
Kata Sifat ini membantu pembaca memahami lebih banyak tentang mereka. Contoh:
Braveness (“brave”, “shy”, “ferocious”)
Capacity (“clever”, “foolish”)
Morality (“honest”, “kind”, “friendly”, “cruel”, “rude”, “sly”, “arrogant”).
